Stuff_To_Do_List:
This is a “stuff to do” note pad (sanity check list) for preparing to backpack for two years to South America, Africa, Spain, ending on the Caribbean island Hispanola. We try to think big at the start and then we know for sure we are ready for whatever the eventual plan will be. We enjoy changing plans often.
Home Base Support:
> Arrange a main support friend (Ya know, just in case ) who has all your:
---> Personal bank and credit card information
---> Access phone numbers and codes
---> Internet bank info, user names and passwords
---> Passport numbers and drivers license numbers
---> Med-Jet account numbers and phone number
Logistics and Remote Support:
> Arrange with 401K account manager to withdrawal money out of 401K fund (enough to live on for one year, 2 people) and deposit that into equity account. The key here is to not draw out any money from the 401K account until January first of the year where no other money is earned.
> Arrange with bank loan person to transfer money from equity account to checking account using a phone call request. The reason here is obvious. The percent interest you pay on a home equity is the exact same amount you will be earning by putting the 401K money into your equity account until it is needed.
> Verify the PIN’s of 2 credit cards and a bank cash card before starting. Have 2 sets of cards.
> Extend the expiration dates of credit cards and cash card before we start
> Transfer all bills to auto payment on a credit card.
> Initiate internet payment from checking account to credit cards.
> Arrange with the county treasure to pay cabin property tax.
> Arrange with tax person to file federal and state tax
> Arrange power of attorney with a lawyer to sign tax statement, 08', 09' and hopefully 10'.
> Get a new state drivers license before we go so we each have an old license to put in our fake wallets.
> Forward mail to a close friend who is willing to open and screen mail for irregularities. Supply this person with blank personal checks that one of us signed. Again, just in case….
> Secure valuables (I wish).
> Winterize and store autos, bikes and lawnmower.
> Close up and winterize the cabin.
> Cut down trees that threaten the cabin, sheds or any vehicle.
> Arrange to pay a friend to cut the grass every few weeks or so in the summer.
>
