Baja 2016 - The Ultimate Road Trip
One Dog, Two people and Four Wheels
A wild 6-month ride wheeling through Mexico’s Baja Peninsula, Heidi, Tom and Sam here we go…
From La Paz we are heading to Los Barriles, our final destination. The road is through small mountain villages and beautiful desert landscape.
Everyone is excited for Los Barriles.
Animals in the streets, motorcycles and off-road quads, this is what we’re
looking for…
In the heart of Los Barriles there are several roads leading to the beach,
and of course this is Mexico so it’s a drive-on beach, super!
We get to the rental house and find it's much better then imagined. Only two
blocks to the ocean and the house borders a wash where we can walk or
drive to the beach. We thought it may be a half a mile or more to the water.
Totally unreal, like a dream.
The living quarters are on the second floor with a parking garage on the
ground floor. There’s a wrap around patio and a roof top sun deck to boot.
Sam
is comfortable, we are comfortable, all is good.
The kitchen has a view of the mountains and the ocean, and includes a
blender. We are set!
A great place to watch the sunset and look at the stars.
This is not a resort area. The house is 3 miles outside of town. There are
cows and herds of goats roaming through our neighborhood and on the beach
every day.
Sam runs to and from the beach without a leash. I bring a leash along
just in case we loop to the road or he decides he doesn’t want the run to end.
There are often other people walking dogs on the beach here. Our house
is in a gated complex. The gates are always open and every complex has an
access to the beach, which is great for running Sam and us getting to
the water, we never have to take the same route.
In Los Barriles there are usually activities every week. Today is an
art fair. It’s about an hour and a half hike along the beach into town,
perfect.
Our house doesn’t have a pool. There were no places with a pool that would
take Sam. But as gringos we can waltz into any fancy hotel pool area, hang
out, swim, order drinks or food pool side and feel totally welcomed. We can
handle that…
Stay tuned for more fun in Baja Mexico…
