Motorcycle Racing in Mexico - the Adventure > -The NORRA Mexican 1000
JustAdventureTravel activities went wild starting in 2016’ with a six-month road trip to Mexico's Baja peninsula. The main point of these chapters is not about Baja motorcycle racing, although there’s plenty of that, it’s about the power of ‘You’ and your ability to change course on a dime and point yourself in a complete new direction. The dreams are the easy part, we all have dreams. It’s the planning and preparations thats important. Here we explain the whole process we went through becoming a desert motorcycle race team in Mexico from scratch! Never raced a motorcycle before, started at age 59. This is exciting and informative stuff. You may like it.

Heidi and Tom are live another ultimate Baja adventure --> This is fun. San Felipe Baja Mexico GO! 2023' We have wrapped up our Baja racing career at least with a motorcycle. It was a great run for Team Cavebiker Racing (Heidi Tom and good friend Tom C) Six years, three one thousand mile races, two trophies and one special award. A dream come true in so many ways for both of us. A report of how this all got started is right here->Ultimate Road Trip 2016’ report. What a blast, it's still hard to believe. While racing we learned what to do, it felt automatic after a while. Spend as much time in Mexico as possible, practice riding a desert race bike in the desert and have fun while staying in top physical shape, no brainer. During that time we came to love living in Baja, it just happened. Now that our crazy racing days are behind it seems obvious we have to go back, just for fun. Ha, here we go, road trip Baja Mexico.

The race bike is transformed back for civilian use complete with passenger pegs for Heidi.

Driving cross country to Mexico we like to try new fun routes. The possibilities are endless.

Chugwater Wyoming. The name just sounds cool so we have to check it out. We learn a lot about this area and the towns name. A great joy about traveling with Heidi, we are always exploring and learning.

Our Mexican rental is beyond expectations. The outside patio area is perfect with a view of the Sea of Cortez a mile away and the El Diablo mountains in back. The patio bricks are a little disturbed from the recent hurricane but in no time we have everything sweetened up. We've learned while traveling that accommodations at our price range are often not ideal so we come prepared to make it our own. We bring comfortable lawn chairs because they are a must. Lighting is important so we always carry a long extension cord and a portable yard light. A few candles and we are set.

San Felipe Day of the dead parade. This has been our home away from home for the second year in a row. Sometimes it takes a while to fully know a location, I think we have San Felipe down now.

San Felipe is a great fishing village right on the Sea of Cortez.

And a fun local tourist destination. We're glad it's not a Cancun level still retaining it's original Mexican charm.

The world famous off road race, the Baja 1000 goes right through where we live. Heidi and I setup out in the desert at what we think is a good spot. Oh Yeah!

Helicopter signals the lead motorcycles are near. Super!

We have been watching Mexicans doing this for years now, we have learned. Everyone is so happy and nice, just great.

We watch the live tracker for people we know so we can cheer them on when they pass. So fun.

This is a popular spot to watch off road racing apparently, a food cart makes it rounds.

Lead trophy trucks coming through. Bikes get a 4 hour lead to lessen the chance of trucks passing bike them.

San Felipe is off road racing central, races are happening all the time. We head down to the malecon for the El Jefe 300 contingency. Great fun, we see NORRA media friends doing interviews of the racers. Makes us feel at home, just great.

San Felipe is alive. Race cars, buggies and bikes, what a great vibe!

A few pics --> Adventures 2023' happening live right now.

Darts room / Adventure planning room

While watching a race out in the desert a guy on a motorcycle rides up to us and asks to help spot his friend who is racing, he forgot his GPS tracker at the last check point up the road! Heidi sees him ride through and starts sprinting and yelling. Others saw Heidi and started throwing chairs and stuff out on the race track to get the guys attention. Wow it worked and the racer got what he needed. So lucky. So fun.

We carry a hummingbird feeder wherever we travel.

This is what we like, beach hiking less then a mile down a deserted dirt road from our rental.
